The Bell is an extraordinarily pretty 16th century pub. Situated in the delightful village of Welford-upon-Avon, its age, location and character have conspired in equal measure to an abundance of myths and stories accounting for its past ranging from famous guests, including Shakespeare, to a myriad of ghost stories.
This is a real pub with a near elegiac optimism about beers including the legendary Old Hooky, and clever, beautifully cooked and presented takes on traditional pub favourites. The cod and chips (revel in the minted peas) is extraordinary value and our pick of a super menu. Internally the pub retains the myriad of beams definitive of a building of this age, but have softened it with open spaces and a welcome conservatory.
The garden is lovely and a must in the summer.
