The Bell is an extraordinarily pretty 16th century pub, situated in the delightful village of Welford-upon-Avon its age, location and character have conspired in equal measure to an abundance of myths and stories accounting for its past ranging from famous guests, including Shakespeare, to a myriad of ghost stories. A picture-box pub would be enough for many to place the Bell at the top-of-the-list for a Sunday outing or summer drive. However, the Bell is infinitely more than this - it would have been so easy to delve into a very different type of international menu leaving its heritage behind. Bravely instead they deliver authenticity, real "pub grub" but cooked with care, passion and attention to detail. Make no mistake, this is a pub that's better suited to eating than whiling an evening away drinking but it does combine the two. The garden is lovely and a must in the summer. The cod and chips (revel in the minted peas) is extraordinary value and our pick of a super menu. Combine this sort of atmosphere, history, chocolate box prettiness, real beers, wonderful food with truly enchanting service and it's little wonder that "The Bell" has garnered a reputation for one of our finest pubs. It's a reputation that's deserved. Highly recommended.
