The Falstaff's Experience is a unique museum set right in the heart of Stratford-Upon-Avon, relating the tales of Stratford in its Dark History Museum, in a series of recreations to give the visitor a real "experience". Falstaff's offers a distinct and refreshing alternative to Shakespeare, even though it has itself strong connections with the Bard. This ancient site has born witness to fire, plague, war and witchcraft and is one of the most original buildings left in Stratford. In the 16th century it was a tavern and Shakespeare is said to have based his character of Falstaff on the tavernkeeper. In the 17th century the first mayor of Stratford, John Woolmer was a tenant here. The Museum has recently been updated with new improved displays and fibreglass figures. In the evening, the popular lantern-lit ghost tours of the building take place. A new theatre, gift shop and education centre are in development.
